Going off the grid | Tulsa Photographer

When was the last time you went on vacation?  Like, and actual vacation.  You can’t count visiting parents who live out of town/out of state.  I’m talking about sandy beaches…or exploring a new city…or hiking mountainous trails.  That vacation.  How long has it been?

For me, it was two…yes, TWO years ago.

What?!  How did this happen to me?!  The girl who spent summers on the beaches of North Carolina and on West Texas riverbanks.  The girl who saved all her money to spend a month in Europe after high school graduation.  The girl who dreamed of going to Greece – since the 5th grade after being taught about Greek Methology – and finally did during a summer break.  The girl who spent her junior year’s college spring break in Kuwait – you know that was crazy haha!  The girl who took a girls trip to The Netherlands and Paris the summer The Netherlands won the World Cup in 2010.

I’ll tell you what happened: adulting.

Traveling is a piece of me.  It’s part of my soul.  It has shaped my world view.  And I want that for my kids, too.

So earlier this month, we spent a week in Perdido Key, Florida with family.  It was such a beautiful and much needed break from the daily grind.

I made one rule for myself on vacation: no checking Facebook, Instagram, email, or my planner.  This was incredibly hard.  But what’s the point of vacation, when you’re living in others’ moments (via social media) or working (via emails and planners)?

Living in the moment without distraction is just what I needed.  I put down the phone.  Everyone waited, and surprisingly the world continued to turn.

So here are some of my favorite photos from our sunny, sandy, clear water vacation…

P.S. Not sure if this will actually come to fruition, but we’re tentatively planning our first official family vacation – just the four of us.  Summer vacation 2019: Highway 1!

Looking for a maternity or baby chiropractor? I’ve got your girl…

A couple of weeks ago, I finally met Dr. Fallon Long after being told multiple time that I need to meet her.  Katie Hesser of Baby Steps Tulsa initially suggested we meet – probably about a year ago.  Then life got busy…well, to be more accurate, it remained busy haha!  Thankfully, I attended a lunch for local businesses and she was there!!

We totally hit it off and decided to meet the following week.  Y’all, this woman is so knowledgeable, professional, and truly has her client’s (big or small) best interest at heart.  If you’re looking for a chiropractor – specifically one who specializes in maternity, newborn, or children, this is your girl.

So, without further ado, Dr. Fallon Long…

Allow me to introduce myself. I’m Dr. Fallon Long, a local chiropractor on a mission to empower Tulsans to take back control of their health, which in turn gives back control of their lives. We live in a world where so many people feel like they’re running on a hamster wheel and going through the motions. We all deserve better than that.

What first drew me to chiropractic was the true healing potential it unleashes. Like most, I went to a chiropractor for the first time for low back pain. Little did I know that regular care would change my life in tremendous ways. It started with pain relief and progressed to a new state of physical and mental clarity. I immediately knew I had to share this with the world and create a community of people who would appreciate the cycle of healing, growing, and thriving via chiropractic care.

Probably doesn’t sound much like the chiropractic clinic you had in your head. In fact, I don’t even call my office a clinic. It is our space. A space that I hold to facilitate expression, adaptability, and growth. A space for like minded people to come together to support each other in their health journey. One where I am not your leader, but your guide who does nothing more than provide you the tools to take charge of your own life, to allow you to make the best decisions for yourself. I am not here to judge, but to give knowledgable advice and care to help you on the path you want to be on.

We’re taking it back to an old school model of chiropractic. The founders had it right.
Chiropractic is bigger than pain. Our bodies are magnificent and in tune with everything around us. Every symptom is your body’s perfect response to an outside stress. Our goal is not to eliminate unwanted expressions, but to listen to them, allow your body to heal naturally, and to make those expressions unnecessary.

“Ok lady, this all sounds good, but what in tarnation do expressions, healing and growth have to do with cracking my back?”

I hear you loud and clear. And here is where we have a mini anatomy & physiology lesson. Your brain controls every function in your body and houses your innate intelligence. Innate intelligence is what allows your body to constantly adapt. The nerves that exit your spine are the pathway between innate and the outside world. Without full function of these nerves, innate cannot adapt to outside stressors as effectively. An inability to adapt is was leads to health issues aka secondary expressions. Removal of this nerve interference allows the body to function at a higher capacity, with clarity, and optimal healing — naturally. So instead of focusing on what’s wrong with you, we amplify what is right! We don’t focus on aches and pains, but instead on your innate ability to heal. And by focusing on your ability to heal, negative expressions tend to subside.

Is innate centered chiropractic care a cure all? Absolutely not! But does a nervous system free of interference allow for mental clarity and expression? You bet it does! And I have additional training in caring for infants, children, and pregnant folks. So our space is truly for the entire family.

We are here to empower Tulsans. You are not a puppet. You do have control of your life. And getting control of your health is the first step in allowing freedom in every other walk of life.

We are here to provide care with integrity. I will always provide the care that was promised and will never recommend unnecessary treatments. Your best interest is always at hand, and you will always be given the honest truth. No nonsense.

We are here to create a community. History and science both show humans thrive in a
supportive community. We are not meant to be isolated. We are not made for privacy fences and separation from neighbors. We need connection, love, and support. And this is just the beginning of Katy and myself creating a community for families and their little ones. A tribe of people who can give each other whatever tools they need to relax and live their best lives.
